Session Purpose:
To strengthen bench-level recognition of anticoagulant-induced pseudothrombocytopenia and prevent the release of misleading platelet results.
Key Objectives:
1. Explain how anticoagulants, especially EDTA, cause pseudothrombocytopenia.
2. Identify analyzer flags, smear findings, and pre-analytical clues suggestive of false thrombocytopenia.
3. Apply verification and corrective steps to ensure accurate platelet counts before reporting.
